Doctors recommend drinking up to eight glasses of water a day to keep your body’s hydration levels up. This can help keep your skin smooth and supple; the constant flush of water in your system helps flush out toxins, which helps prevent breakouts and blemishes.

Speaking of which, If you want to prevent acne – besides keeping your face free of oil and dirt – dermatologists tell us to stay away from foods high in fat and sugar. More specifically, refined grains and sugars, dairy, fast food, chocolate. Stay away from carbs and sugars – such as white bread, white rice, pasteurizes, sweets, sugary drinks, and many kinds of cereal. Instead, help yourself to healthy vegetables, whole grains, and fruits that are filled with skin-friendly antioxidants.

Selenium

This mineral helps protect skin from free radicals and acne when paired with Vitamin E. Foods rich with selenium include eggs, brown rice, garlic, tuna, and salmon.

Don’t be overwhelmed by all of the information. If you keep it simple, you will be fine. Focus on having a healthy, balanced overall diet that includes lots of water to keep you hydrated, with healthy fish, meat, poultry, and vegetables. Avoid refined sugars and fast food, and try always to choose low-fat, fat-free foods and whole-grain bread and pasta.
